Ream makes no network requests. Your scans, the text read from them, and everything else the app stores live on your device and are never uploaded to us, because there is nowhere for them to be uploaded to. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The only third party code in the app is the library that processes optional in app purchases.
Nothing. We have no servers, no database and no way to receive anything from your phone. The rest of this section describes what the app stores locally, so you know what is on your device and how to remove it.
Ream asks for camera access to scan documents. The camera is used only while a scan is in progress. Frames are processed on your device and are never transmitted anywhere. Ream does not ask for photo library access at all.
Reading the words on a page is done entirely on your device by Apple's Vision framework, which is part of iOS. No image and no text is sent to Apple, to us, or to anyone else. This is also why recognition works in airplane mode.
The optional supporter purchases are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, which records an anonymous, randomly generated identifier so that a purchase can be restored on your devices. We never receive your name, email address or payment details. Apple handles the transaction, and we only learn that an anonymous identifier is entitled to the unlock. Ream never assigns you an identifier of its own and never calls the function that would attach a purchase to a user account, because it has no user accounts.
The app may occasionally ask whether you would like to rate it. That prompt is provided by Apple. Any rating you leave goes to Apple, not to us, and we are not told whether you left one.
There is no sign up, no login and no way to create an account. We have no user database. Restoring a purchase on a new device uses your Apple Account, and moving your documents uses the export file you create yourself.
When you share a scan or export your library, iOS hands the file to whatever destination you pick, such as Mail, Messages, Files or iCloud Drive. That is your action and your choice of destination, and what happens to the file afterwards is governed by that service rather than by Ream. Nothing passes through us on the way.
We do not sell, rent or share your data, because we do not have it. The only third parties involved are Apple, for app distribution and payments, and RevenueCat, for purchase entitlements under an anonymous identifier.
Everything the app stores is on your device. Deleting the app removes your scans, your labels, your settings and every cached file. Settings also has a "Delete All Scans" control that erases your documents without removing the app. Neither action can be undone, so export a copy first if you want to keep one.
Ream is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. Since the app collects no personal information at all, there is nothing to request the deletion of.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
